It feeds on algae that it grazes on the rocks between the surface and 100 m depth in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

This specimen with its prickles comes from the Italian coast of Liguria.

This gorgonian is the dazzling mixture of red and yellow. This Leptogorgia hebes comes from the Gulf of Mexico.

It grows sheltered from the sun's rays in areas between 10 and 300 meters deep. Where no one sees its vibrant colors. Their color is of course natural.

Attached perpendicular to their support, the colonized polyp branches filter the water with the current to capture the micro-organisms in suspension.

Gorgonians, like corals, are animals living in the form of sessile colonial polyps, organized in a tree structure. Each polyp has 8 tentacles which filter the plankton and consume it. The general structure, a skeleton both flexible and hard, called gorgonine do not grow towards the sun (it does not require light to develop) but perpendicular to the current, so as to filter a maximum of water flow.

THE LEGEND :

During the Arab domination in Sicily, in the city of Palermo there was an Arab suburb called "La Kalsa".

In this small suburb lived a beautiful young woman who spent her time tending to the flowers on her balcony.

One day a young Moor was walking under the lady's balcony. He noticed the beauty of the young lady and he fell in love with her.

He did not wait a minute to declare his love and the beautiful young girl, impressed by the audacity of the lover, quickly experienced the same love.

Unfortunately, the young Moor was already married and had several children ... as soon as the young woman found out that he could leave to find his family, one day she waited for night and killed him while he slept soundly. She cut off his head and used it as a vase for her plants so she could have him forever by her side.

As the beauty of this vase was remarkable, the whole neighborhood wanted to own a similar one.

From this moment, the creation of vases in the shape of the heads of Moors began...

A superb shabby chic version straight out of the corridors of the time of the masterpiece of the Italian Baroque painter Giovanni Paolo Pannini.

Trained by the best perspective specialists, he began his career by devoting himself to the decoration of palaces with trompe-l'oeil, but acquired most of his fame through his imaginary views of ancient ruins.

The master's canvas was reproduced in the workshop and then meticulously aged entirely by hand. Each accident, each crack or patina effect is never the result of chance...

This magnificent reproduction plays the card of detail: rusty nails, stamp, traces of humidity, old labels, old stretcher... everything is there to make this reinterpretation more real than life.
