This reproduction of an old engraving titled "The Chandos Oak" is one of several portraits of forest trees, distinguished for their age, size or beauty, taken from nature and engraved by Jacob George Strutt.
Sylva Britannica plaque or Forest Tree Portraits written and illustrated by Jacob George Strutt (1790-1864) published in folio format in 1822.
Strutt (1784-1867) was a landscape painter and printmaker by training, rather than a botanical draftsman. Strutt's early training was in the picture, but he also excelled in the forest landscape.
Beautiful black wood frame.
