Description

The yap (yap "Rai" for the north, yap "Fai" for the southern part of the island) is a mini monetary system of the Yap Islands, Micronesia.
The stones of Yap are the origin of large round stones similar to millstones, with a hole in the middle, the size of which can range from 8 centimeters to 4 meters in diameter.
They are cut from a material composed of aragonite and calcite.

Broken, these stones no longer have any value. The inhabitants of Yap, in order not to risk breaking them during a perilous transport, leave the heaviest in the same place and mentally note to whom the stone belongs.
Material: stone
Provenance: Carolina Islands, Micronesia
