These mappa burl veneer sheets have a wonderful color combination that often varies from light tan to a beautiful gold with pockets of dark red/brown burl. Mappa also has a very unique aroma that resembles leather. Native to Western Europe, mappa is the only species of poplar that develops this rare type of burl formation.
Mappa burl veneers require grain filling to level voids in the burl pockets. These gaps are not imperfections but simply nature's way of creating this type of magnifying glass. Grain filling is often done with epoxy mixed with wood dust. Once the epoxy is dry, careful sanding is necessary.
