Petrified wood is made up of fossilized wood where the organic matter has more or less completely been replaced by minerals (most often silicates, such as quartz, but also pyrite, etc.), while retaining more or less completely the original anatomical structure of wood.
The process of petrification occurs when wood is buried under a layer of sediment, where it first preserves due to a lack of oxygen, before mineral-rich water flows through the sediment and permeates little to little mineral wood cells. These then crystallize eventually, in various ways. Less than a hundred years could probably be needed for some pieces of wood to be petrified, but the process could also sometimes be much longer, up to several million years, including recrystallization phases.

Eco-environmental furniture par excellence, this beautiful coffee table is made with wood that comes from old doors and beams. The wood may thus contain a few small natural cracks or holes which are authentic and give a natural and shabby chic charm.
The wood has been stripped and brushed by hand to reveal the knots and beautiful veins of the essence of the old wood. The wood is therefore natural and raw and the top must be protected before first use.
