This reproduction of an antique engraving "Oriental Plane" is one of several portraits forest trees, distinguished for their age, size or beauty drawn from nature and etched by Jacob George Strutt.
Plate Sylva Britannica, or portraits written and illustrated by Jacob George Strutt (1790-1864) forest trees published in folio size in 1822.
Strutt (1784-1867) was a landscape painter and printmaker by training, rather than botanical draftsman. The early formation of Strutt was in the portrait, but he also excelled in the forest landscape.
